4-Day Summiting Mount Meru

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Your journey begins with an early breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in Moshi, followed by a scenic drive to Momella Gate for registration and park formalities. After completing the paperwork, the trek officially starts, accompanied by your guide and team. You’ll hike through lush landscapes with a picnic lunch stop along the way, ascending to Miriakamba Hut. The trail winds through dense montane forests, offering glimpses of wildlife and stunning vistas. After approximately 3½ hours of trekking, you’ll reach Miriakamba Hut, where a warm dinner and a well-deserved rest await.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

After a hearty breakfast, the ascent continues towards Saddle Hut, located at the base of Little Meru. This section of the trail is steeper than the previous day and takes approximately 2½ hours to complete. Along the way, you’ll traverse heathlands adorned with unique vegetation such as giant lobelias. After settling in at Saddle Hut, there’s an optional afternoon hike to the peak of Little Meru, providing breathtaking views and aiding in acclimatization. Enjoy a satisfying dinner before settling in for the night.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit to Saddle Hut

Descent: 4,566m (14,980ft) to 3,560m (11,680ft)

The summit day begins in the early hours, around midnight, with tea and light snacks before embarking on the final ascent to the summit of Big Meru. Equipped with headlamps, you’ll navigate rocky paths and ridges under the starlit sky. After approximately 5-7 hours, you’ll reach the summit at 4,566m (14,980ft), where breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape await.

After celebrating your achievement, descend carefully back to Saddle Hut for a hearty breakfast. The rest of the day is yours to relax and rejuvenate. Enjoy lunch, dinner, and an overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Day 4: Saddle Hut to Momella Gate

Begin your final descent after breakfast, retracing your steps past Miriakamba Hut and through the lush forest trails back to Momella Gate. Along the way, savor the last moments of Mount Meru’s diverse landscapes and wildlife. At Momella Gate, you’ll meet your transport back to Moshi or Arusha.

Upon arrival in Moshi, you’ll check in at the 4-star Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel, where you can relax and unwind after your adventure. This marks the perfect conclusion to your Mount Meru trek and sets the stage for your next adventure, whether it’s a safari or a tropical escape to Zanzibar.
